How to use Projected Stats for DFS (NBA)

Projected statistics are generated by very advanced systems that take in a wealth of factors in an attempt to predict how well a player will do. Projection systems are an entire area of expertise and you usually have very little visibility into the 'secret sauce' that projection providers use. For this reason, we only partner with projectors that we trust and show us excellent results. Like vegas numbers, DFS projections are valuable to us because we can quickly see how other smart people expect the day to play out.

Projected Points

If you have a subscription to one of our projection feeds, you can use this data to get a sense for the day's top players. This is very useful for a few reasons. If you are very excited about a particular player, but he is projected very low, then it is a great indicator that you may have missed a key variable. Maybe he is on the fence with an injury or illness. Maybe he was just traded and wont accrue points! Who knows. Conversely, maybe a projector has a high rating on a player who you completely missed. Projected points are one of the most important yardsticks for 'checking your work.' Of course, the better the source, the more trust you can place in their assumptions.

Projected Fantasy Points per $1k (FPts/$1k)

FPts/$1k is a very very valuable measurement of a player's overall value. By taking a player's points divided by salary, we can quickly find players that give us a good bang for our buck. This is central to DFS: Spend too much on a few rockstars, and you will be left with scrubs and too few points across your other positions in order to win. Combining this measurement of value, with other filters, is exactly how we find underpriced players. All it takes is a few underpriced players to give us the salary space we need to squeeze a ton of points into one lineup.

Player Lab

You can quickly find players with high projected points and high value in our Player Lab tool. Check it out and don't forget to register with us to hear about new Player Lab filters when they are released.
