MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 4/23/2019

It’s shaping up to be another ugly pitching night across the majors Tuesday. With so little talent to speak of scheduled to take the mound, the best strategy might be to spend down at the position and load up on bats. Let’s break down some of the matchups and highlight players who could provide value. STARTING PITCHERS

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 4/23/19

Domingo German vs. Los Angeles Angels
Stadium – Angel Stadium
FanDuel = $9,300
DraftKings = $9,000

Of the more expensive pitching options, German stands out as one of the best. He carries tremendous strikeout upside, following up his 27.2 percent strikeout rate last year with a 31.1 percent mark in that category this season. His 3.94 xFIP last year also indicates he pitched better than his 5.57 ERA would lead you to believe. While Mike Trout is obviously a monster, the rest of the Angels lineup isn’t great, so German could be in line for a productive evening.

Luke Weaver vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Stadium – PNC Park
FanDuel = $7,400
DraftKings = $8,100

Zack Godley let me down Monday, but I’m going to the well again with another Diamondbacks’ starter Tuesday. The Pirates did receive a boost with the activation of Gregory Polanco from the IL this week, but Starling Marte (abdomen) and Corey Dickerson (shoulder) remain sidelined. Even Melky Cabrera had to leave Monday’s game due to injury. Weaver doesn’t have the control issues that Goldey does and he’s shown plenty of strikeout upside this year with a 27.3 percent strikeout rate.

CATCHER

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 4/23/19

Austin Romine vs. Chris Stratton, Los Angeles Angels
Stadium – Angel Stadium
FanDuel = $2,300
DraftKings = $3,400

The Yankees decided to give Romine a night off Monday, so expect him to be back in the lineup before Gary Sanchez (calf) is scheduled to return Wednesday. Romine has performed well in his absence, hitting 7-for-20 with five RBI across his last five games. This is a stellar opportunity for him to continue to be productive considering Stratton has a 2.00 WHIP through his first four starts.

FIRST BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 4/23/19

Yonder Alonso vs. Andrew Cashner, Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Oriole Park at Camden Yards
FanDuel = $2,800
DraftKings =$4,100

Alonso makes this list for the second straight day due to another matchup against a bad Orioles’ pitcher. He contributed nicely to their 12-run outburst Monday, finishing 1-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a walk. Cashner has a 5.52 xFIP in the early going and allowed a .361 wOBA to left-handed hitters last year.

Others to consider: Jose Abreu and Mike Ford

SECOND BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 4/23/19

Brian Dozier vs. Jeff Hoffman, Colorado Rockies
Stadium – Coors Field
FanDuel = $3,400
DraftKings = $4,400

While there is no official word at the time of writing this, all indications are that Hoffman is going to start this game for the Rockies. He’s allowed a .383 wOBA at Coors Field for his career, so attacking him in DFS could prove to be profitable. Despite his early-season struggles, Dozier has hit a home run in three of his last four games and could continue to do damage in this favorable matchup.

Others to consider: Jonathan Villar and Eric Sogard

THIRD BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 4/23/19

Yoan Moncada vs. Andrew Cashner, Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Oriole Park at Camden Yards
FanDuel = $4,200
DraftKings = $4,900

Continuing to pile on against Cashner brings us to Moncada, who was also productive Monday by going 1-for-4 with two walks and two runs scored. He’s off to an excellent start with a .400 wOBA and six home runs. While his .368 BABIP is high, it’s very encouraging that his strikeout rate has dropped all the way down to 24.7 percent after it was 33.4 percent last season.

Others to consider: Matt Chapman and Matt Carpenter

SHORTSTOP

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 4/23/19

Gleyber Torres vs. Chris Stratton, Los Angeles Angels
Stadium – Angel Stadium
FanDuel = $3,200
DraftKings = $3,900

As depleted as the Yankees lineup is, it’s going to be hard to resist stacking against Stratton based on how poorly he has pitched. Despite his early struggles, Torres is still one of the best hitters that they have left. He’s had some problems avoiding strikeouts, but that might not be a major concern Tuesday considering Stratton has a 17.8 percent strikeout rate for his career.

Others to consider: Tim Anderson and Xander Bogaerts

OUTFIELD

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 4/23/19

Mookie Betts vs. Spencer Turnbull, Detroit Tigers
Stadium – Fenway Park
FanDuel = $3,900
DraftKings = $4,800

It’s not often that you see Betts priced this cheap, especially considering what he costs on FanDuel. Don’t panic over his .244 batting average. He has an abnormally low .254 BABIP and his strikeout rate isn’t terrible at 16.7 percent. He’s recorded three-straight multi-hit performances entering Tuesday, so he may finally be coming out of his slump. It also helps his cause that this game is being played in Fenway Park considering he posted a lofty .463 wOBA there last season.

Trey Mancini vs. Ivan Nova, Chicago White Sox
Stadium – Oriole Park at Camden Yards
FanDuel = $3,900
DraftKings = $4,900

Nova isn’t exactly an overwhelming pitcher with his career 17.2 percent strikeout rate. He’s also finished with an xFIP of at least 4.19 in three of the last four seasons. Mancini is currently on a five-game hitting streak and is off to a fantastic start with a 175 wRC+. He has a career .346 wOBA at home and carries plenty of power upside into this matchup.

Jose Martinez vs. Zach Davies, Milwaukee Brewers
Stadium – Busch Stadium
FanDuel = $2,900
DraftKings = $4,100

Martinez has recorded at least one hit in all six games since taking over an everyday role, hitting 11-for-24 with a home run and a double during that stretch. With Harrison Bader (hamstring) and Tyler O’Neill (arm) on the IL, he’s locked into a starting job until at least one of them returns. Even though he doesn’t have the platoon advantage in this game, he is still a great option considering his reasonable price on both sites.

Others to consider: J.D. Martinez and Steven Duggar
