MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 5/14/2019

After a quiet Monday, we have a busy Tuesday across the majors with 12 games making up the main evening slate in DFS. With so many options to wade through, let’s jump right in and discuss some players to target based on their favorable matchups. STARTING PITCHERS

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 5/14/19

Charlie Morton vs. Miami Marlins
Stadium – Marlins Park
FanDuel = $9,800
DraftKings = $10,500

There is no shortage of top-tier starting pitchers for this slate. Morton has to be included in that group with his 3.53 xFIP and 30.4 percent strikeout rate. He’s allowed more than two runs in a start only one time this season and has given up just two home runs in 44.1 innings. The Marlins have by far the worst lineup in baseball and Morton will also avoid the DH with this game being played in Miami, so this is a matchup to exploit.

Danny Duffy vs. Texas Rangers
Stadium – Kauffman Stadium
FanDuel = $7,600
DraftKings = $7,700

With so many aces available, taking a chance on one of the cheaper pitchers while loading up on hitters could be a contrarian route to take in tournament play. If you do choose to deploy that strategy, consider Duffy. He’ll avoid having to face the Rangers in hitter-friendly Globe Life Park in Arlington, which is huge. The Rangers lineup is also loaded with left-handed hitters, which should work to Duffy’s advantage since he has held lefties to a .252 wOBA for his career.

CATCHER

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 5/14/19

Robinson Chirinos vs. Ryan Carpenter, Detroit Tigers
Stadium – Comerica Park
FanDuel = $3,200
DraftKings = $4,300

As far as the catcher’s position goes, few players in the league are as hot as Chirinos is right now. He’s 9-for-30 (.300) with four home runs across his last 11 games and has benefited from being in the potent Astros’ lineup by logging 11 RBI and 10 runs scored during that stretch. Carpenter was bombed in his first major league start after posting a 5.42 xFIP at Triple-A, so look for Chirinos to keep things rolling.

Others to consider: Willians Astudillo

FIRST BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 5/14/19

Ryan O’Hearn vs. Shelby Miller, Texas Rangers
Stadium – Kauffman Stadium
FanDuel = $2,900
DraftKings = $3,600

As good as the Astros matchup is against Carpenter, the Royals are also in a prime spot to thrive against Miller, who has been awful with a 6.78 xFIP and a 1.92 WHIP. O’Hearn might be batting only .186, but he has been somewhat victimized by his .218 BABIP. He somehow still has a 102 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers, so don’t be surprised if he provides excellent value based on his cheap price on both sites.

Others to consider: Matt Olson and Yuli Gurriel

SECOND BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 5/14/19

Aledmys Diaz vs. Ryan Carpenter, Detroit Tigers
Stadium – Comerica Park
FanDuel = $2,900
DraftKings = $3,900

With Jose Altuve (hamstring) on the shelf, Diaz has secure at-bats moving forward. He’s made the most of his opportunity so far, hitting 7-for-22 (.318) with two home runs and a double across his last six games. If you’re deploying an Astros stack, he’s one of the top cheaper options to consider in order to help balance out your budget.

Others to consider: Whit Merrifield and Robinson Cano

THIRD BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 5/14/19

Marwin Gonzalez vs. Cam Bedrosian, Los Angeles Angels
Stadium – Target Field
FanDuel = $2,700
DraftKings = $3,200

Gonzalez tenure with the Twins couldn’t have started much worse. His wOBA stands at .295, but the good news is that he’s finally starting to look comfortable at the plate, hitting 15-for-39 (.385) with two home runs across his last 11 games. Not only is his price on FanDuel still cheap, but his price on DraftKings could make him one of the better bargains of the night. Of note, he is only listed at third base on FanDuel as he is eligible at first base and outfield on DraftKings.

Others to consider: Alex Bregman and Matt Carpenter

SHORTSTOP

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 5/14/19

Adalberto Mondesi vs. Shelby Miller, Texas Rangers
Stadium – Kauffman Stadium
FanDuel = $4,200
DraftKings = $5,300

I’ve discussed a lot of cheaper options to help with your budget, so now let’s start to highlight some of the big names to target. Mondesi stands out as one of the top shortstops based on this matchup against Miller. While he continues to strikeout out at an alarming rate, that hasn’t stopped Mondesi from posting a .227 ISO and stealing 13 bases.

Others to consider: Paul DeJong and Carlos Correa

OUTFIELD

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 5/14/19

George Springer vs. Ryan Carpenter, Detroit Tigers
Stadium – Comerica Park
FanDuel = $4,700
DraftKings =$5,800

This is a tough price to pay with so many great pitchers available, but Springer might actually be worth it. He’s one of the hottest hitters in the league right now, hitting 23-for-52 (.442) with seven home runs across his last 13 games. He even has 16 RBI and 17 runs scored during that stretch. Add in his career .393 wOBA against left-handed pitchers and his upside is off the charts.

Alex Gordon vs. Shelby Miller, Texas Rangers
Stadium – Kauffman Stadium
FanDuel = $3,700
DraftKings = $4,800

Gordon wasn’t very productive at the plate last year, finishing with 13 home runs and 54 RBI. Incredibly, he already has eight home runs and 31 RBI this season. He also has a .386 wOBA, which is over 50 points higher than his career mark. One of the big reasons for his success has been reducing his strikeout rate to 12.5 percent, which is nine percentage points lower than his career mark. Look for him to continue to be productive based on this matchup.

Jake Marisnick vs. Ryan Carpenter, Detroit Tigers
Stadium – Comerica Park
FanDuel = $2,200
DraftKings = $4,200

Alright, let’s get back to saving some money. While Marisnick isn’t overly cheap on DraftKings, he’s one of the prime low-priced hitters to target on FanDuel. He should be in the lineup with a lefty on the mound considering he has a 179 wRC+ against them this year.

Others to consider: David Peralta and Khris Davis
