STARTING PITCHERS

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/16/19

Walker Buehler vs. Philadelphia Phillies
Stadium – Citizens Bank Park
FanDuel = $10,000
DraftKings = $10,200

The cream of the crop in terms of starting pitchers for the night is Buehler. After drubbing the Phillies on Monday, the Dodgers are once again in a prime position to come away with a win due to Buehler being on the mound. He’s been as good as it gets, recording a 2.84 FIP, 0.99 WHIP and a 27.4 percent strikeout rate. While his price tag will make it a little more difficult to load up on hitters, he’s a great cash game target.

Jordan Yamamoto vs. San Diego Padres
Stadium – Marlins Park
FanDuel = $8,700
DraftKings = $9,500

While the Marlins lineup is lacking talent, their starting staff has become very appealing. First, it was Caleb Smith making all the headlines out of the gate, now it’s Yamamoto as well. He has a minuscule 1.24 ERA since being recalled from the minors. That’s not sustainable, but his 2.80 FIP still indicates that he’s pitched very well. The Padres have a ton of power, but Yamamoto has yet to give up a homer. In his pitcher-friendly home park, he could once again provide excellent value.

CATCHER

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/16/19

Roberto Perez vs. Ryan Carpenter, Detroit Tigers
Stadium – Progressive Field
FanDuel = $2,900
DraftKings = $4,300

Perez came through for us yesterday, hitting 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. The Tigers will throw out yet another underwhelming left-handed pitcher in Carpenter, who has an unsightly 8.36 ERA and 1.75 WHIP. With his 171 wRC+ against lefties, this is a favorable spot to once again include Perez in your entry.

Others to consider: Christian Vazquez

FIRST BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/16/19

Joc Pederson vs. Vince Velasquez, Philadelphia Phillies
Stadium – Citizens Bank Park
FanDuel = $2,700
DraftKings = $4,500

Pederson played his part in Monday’s dominance of the Phillies, finishing the game 2-for-6 with a double, two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. His main appeal is in the power department with his .277 ISO, which would be the highest mark of his career. Velasquez has pitched poorly with his 5.36 FIP and a 1.40 WHIP, making Pederson someone to target, especially at his reduced price on FanDuel.

Others to consider: Brandon Belt and Paul Goldschmidt

SECOND BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/16/19

Harold Castro vs. Zach Plesac, Cleveland Indians
Stadium – Progressive Field
FanDuel = $2,900
DraftKings = $3,600

The Tigers don’t usually have a lineup worth targeting, which could make Plesac a popular target in tournament play. If you want to be a contrarian and add a Tiger or two to your entry, Castro is someone to at least consider. He’s provided a much-needed spark of late, hitting 20-for-49 (.408) with three doubles and two triples over his last 12 games.

Others to consider: Max Muncy and David Fletcher

THIRD BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/16/19

Rafael Devers vs. Jacob Waguespack, Toronto Blue Jays
Stadium – Fenway Park
FanDuel = $4,200
DraftKings = $5,500

The Red Sox figure to be a popular stack against Waguespack, who has struggled with a 5.30 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP at Triple-A this season. The fact that he’s starting in the majors says more about the Blue Jays lack of depth than it does his upside. While he won’t come cheap, Devers has been a monster by hitting 42-for-103 (.408) with eight home runs and 10 doubles over his last 25 games.

Others to consider: Yuli Gurriel and Jose Ramirez

SHORTSTOP

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/16/19

Xander Bogaerts vs. Jacob Waguespack, Toronto Blue Jays
Stadium – Fenway Park
FanDuel = $4,600
DraftKings = $5,500

Devers isn’t the only player on the Red Sox who is firing on all cylinders right now. During that same 25-game stretch, Bogaerts is 33-for-97 (.340) with seven home runs and 10 doubles. Even though he’s become less of a factor in the stolen base department, his .255 ISO and .396 wOBA are both career-highs.

Others to consider: Brandon Crawford and Corey Seager

OUTFIELD

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/16/19

Juan Soto vs. Asher Wojciechowski, Baltimore Orioles
Stadium – Oriole Park at Camden Yards
FanDuel = $4,100
DraftKings = $5,300

The Orioles were already thin on starting pitchers, then Dylan Bundy (knee) hit the IL and they traded Andrew Cashner to the Red Sox. That will force them to start Wojciechowski, who has struggled in the minors with a 5.83 FIP at Triple-A. Soto has a .398 wOBA against right-handed pitchers and has shown no signs of any regression in his sophomore campaign with his 142 wRC+.

Ian Desmond vs. Drew Pomeranz, San Francisco Giants
Stadium – Coors Field
FanDuel = $3,700
DraftKings = $4,400

This could be the perfect storm for Desmond. Pomeranz has been awful with his 6.42 ERA and 1.77 WHIP. Having him on the mound certainly works in Desmond’s favor since he has a .417 wOBA versus lefties. To top things off, he has a .368 wOBA at home compared to a .307 wOBA on the road.

Oscar Mercado vs. Ryan Carpenter, Detroit Tigers
Stadium – Progressive Field
FanDuel=$2,700
DraftKings = $4,100

Entering play Monday, Mercado was mired in a 1-for-25 slump. However, he broke out of it in a big way by going 3-for-5 with two home runs and a steal. With a struggling lefty on the mound, taking a chance on Mercado having another strong performance could be well worth the risk in tournament play.
