MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/3/2019

We have another hectic night in the majors Wednesday with 14 games making up the main slate in DFS. Highlighted by a potentially high-scoring game between the Astros and Rockies at Coors Field, scoring shouldn’t be that hard to come by. Let’s break down the matchups and target some of the better players to consider. STARTING PITCHERS

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/3/19

Walker Buehler vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
Stadium – Dodger Stadium
FanDuel = $10,100
DraftKings = $10,900

Coors Field can get to even the best of pitchers, which happened to Buehler in his last outing. The Rockies roughed him up for seven runs over 5.2 innings, which was certainly rare considering he had allowed three runs over 31 innings in his last four starts. He’s having an outstanding season with a 2.87 FIP and a 0.97 WHIP, so look for him to rebound quickly with a strong performance against the Diamondbacks at home.

John Means vs. Tampa Bay Rays
Stadium – Tropicana Field
FanDuel = $8,600
DraftKings = $8,400

As ugly as it’s been for the Orioles’ pitching staff, Means has been one of their few bright spots. He’s overachieved a bit with a 2.50 ERA considering his FIP stands at 3.96. However, this is a favorable matchup since the Rays only have a 94 wRC+ against left-handed pitchers. I like Means a lot on DraftKings, but I think I’d actually pass on him on FanDuel based on his price. If you’re looking to take a chance on a cheaper pitcher there, consider Kyle Gibson against the A’s at $7,100.

CATCHER

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/3/19

James McCann vs. Tyler Alexander, Detroit Tigers
Stadium – Guaranteed Rate Field
FanDuel = $3,500
DraftKings = $4,600

This one will be a bit tricky since the White Sox and Tigers are playing a doubleheader. If McCann is behind the plate for the first game, he’s not going to catch the nightcap as well. However, if he does play, this is an ideal matchup against the lefty Alexander, who has a 6.23 ERA and a 5.27 FIP at Triple-A. McCann has especially thrived with a 161 wRC+ against southpaws.

Others to consider: Brian McCann

FIRST BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/3/19

Brandon Dixon vs. Ross Detwiler, Chicago White Sox
Stadium – Guaranteed Rate Field
FanDuel = $2,800
DraftKings = $4,100

Normally, the Tigers’ lineup is one to avoid. However, this could be a spot to attack the journeyman Detwiler, who had an ugly 6.22 FIP at Triple-A this season. Dixon has shown some added pop with a .235 ISO, which has been aided by the fact that he’s hit four home runs over his last nine games.

Others to consider: Freddie Freeman and Michael Chavis

SECOND BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/3/19

Adam Frazier vs. Yu Darvish, Chicago Cubs
Stadium – PNC Park
FanDuel = $3,000
DraftKings = $3,600

The Cubs have probably seen enough of Frazier, who has a staggering nine hits in the first two games of this series. He’s not just slapping singles, either, with five doubles and a home run. Darvish’s struggles have continued with him allowing at least four runs in three of his last four starts, leaving Frazier with plenty of upside at his cheap price on both sites.

Others to consider: Jose Altuve and Brock Holt

THIRD BASE

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/3/19

Rafael Devers vs. Jacob Waguespack, Toronto Blue Jays
Stadium – Rogers Centre
FanDuel = $4,100
DraftKings = $4,700

The Red Sox are going to be a popular team to stack against Waguespack, who recorded a 5.41 FIP across 52.2 innings at Triple-A. Devers is as hot as it gets, hitting 31-for-66 (.470) with five home runs and eight doubles over his last 16 games. He’s a little more appealing based on his price on DraftKings, but he’s a player worth paying up for on both sites.

Others to consider: Yuli Gurriel and Eugenio Suarez

SHORTSTOP

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/3/19

Xander Bogaerts vs. Jacob Waguespack, Toronto Blue Jays
Stadium – Rogers Centre
FanDuel = $4,200
DraftKings = $4,600

Continuing to attack this matchup against Waguespack brings us to Boegaerts, who is also playing well after hitting 19-for-56 (.339) with two home runs and nine doubles over his last 14 games. Don’t worry that Bogaerts doesn’t have the platoon advantage here since he has a .386 wOBA against right-handed pitchers this season.

Others to consider: Trevor Story and J.P. Crawford

OUTFIELD

MLB Daily Fantasy Baseball Recommendations for 7/3/19

George Springer vs. Peter Lambert, Colorado Rockies
Stadium – Coors Field
FanDuel = $4,800
DraftKings = $5,900

This price tag is tough to work with, but Springer might actually be worth it. He played a key role in the Astros’ nine-run outburst Tuesday, hitting 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored. This is an ideal matchup against the underwhelming Lambert, who has allowed 14 runs over 12.2 innings in three starts at Coors Field.

Ian Desmond vs. Wade Miley, Houston Astros
Stadium – Coors Field
FanDuel = $3,300
DraftKing = $4,500

There are two significant stats pointing to Desmond being an excellent option here. First, he has a .384 wOBA at home. Second, he has a staggering .441 wOBA against left-handed pitchers. While Miley has had a fine season for the Astros, Desmond is one of the more attractive mid-tier options on this slate.

Eloy Jimenez vs. Tyler Alexander, Detroit Tigers
Stadium – Guaranteed Rate Field
FanDuel = $3,100
DraftKings = $4,000

One of the top prospects in all of baseball, Jimenez’s career got off to a rough start this season. Luckily for the White Sox, he’s righted the ship by hitting 19-for-67 (.284) with seven home runs across his last 18 games. Having already highlighted Alexander’s struggles at Triple-A, this is an excellent opportunity for Jimenez to continue his recent run of success.
